Can One Encounter with Jesus Really Change Everything?
Some people think transformation is gradual—slow steps toward becoming a better version of ourselves. But the Bible reminds us that true transformation often happens in a single encounter with Jesus.
Acts 9 tells the story of Saul, a man who was “still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples” (Acts 9:1). He was zealous, angry, and determined to destroy the church. But everything shifted on the road to Damascus. A blinding light from heaven stopped him in his tracks, and a voice called his name: “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” (Acts 9:4).
In that moment, Saul discovered the grace and power of the risen Christ. He was blinded, humbled, and redirected. Days later, through Ananias’ prayer, his sight was restored and his life set on a new path. The persecutor became a preacher. The enemy of Jesus became His chosen instrument.
This story reminds us of three powerful truths:
No one is beyond God’s reach. If God could transform Saul, He can transform anyone.
God often meets us at our worst. Romans 5:8 says Christ died for us “while we were still sinners.” That’s when grace breaks through.
One touch changes everything. Like Saul, we’re invited to ask, “Lord, what do you want me to do?” (Acts 9:6).
Transformation isn’t just about behavior—it’s about a new identity, a new mission, and a new heart. And it all begins with encountering Jesus.
Saul was “sold out” in his mission against the church before meeting Jesus. How does this challenge our view of who God can transform?
Have you ever had a “Damascus Road” moment—an encounter with God that completely changed your perspective?
Saul asked, “Who are you, Lord?” and “What do you want me to do?” How do these two questions shape a life of faith?
God used Ananias, an ordinary disciple, to restore Saul’s sight. How does this encourage us about the role we play in someone else’s transformation?
