What If Your Breakthrough Doesn’t Make Sense?

Have you ever felt stuck—like you're standing at the edge of something God promised, yet there's a massive wall in your way? You've prayed. You've planned. You've believed. But suddenly, the momentum halts, and all you see is a barrier. No movement. No visible progress. Just silence. What if that’s not a setback—but the setup?

That’s exactly where Israel found themselves in Joshua 6. They had crossed the Jordan, but Jericho stood between them and the Promised Land. The wall wasn’t metaphorical—it was massive, fortified, and impenetrable. And yet, God's instruction was clear and unexpected: Walk, don’t war. Worship, don’t worry. Shout, don’t strategize.

When God’s Strategy Sounds Crazy

God told Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands…” (Joshua 6:2). But at that moment, the wall was still standing. No bricks had fallen. No gates had opened. Yet God spoke in past tense. That’s how God sees—He speaks promise before performance. But we often wait to see before we believe.

Have you ever been there? You hear God’s voice, you step out in faith, and then—bam!—a wall. Financial struggles. Career confusion. A delayed dream. The Excel sheet doesn’t add up anymore. The timing feels wrong. And suddenly you start to question: Was that really God?

But God’s wisdom often offends human logic. Marching around a wall with priests and trumpets doesn’t pass for military genius—but it’s divine obedience. It’s a reminder that God's ways are not ours. His thoughts stretch beyond our spreadsheets and timelines (Isaiah 55:8–9).

Obedience Isn’t Optional

What if your next step isn’t to push harder, but to listen more closely?

When God gives an instruction, it rarely comes with the full blueprint. He told Israel to walk—not knock—the wall down. And He didn’t ask for opinions. He asked for obedience.

Obedience doesn’t always feel efficient, but it’s powerful. That slow, silent, steady march may feel like nothing is happening. But heaven is responding to every obedient step.

And sometimes, unity is the secret sauce. The Israelites marched together. They didn’t split into committees to debate God's logic. They simply obeyed. Because God isn’t just looking for individual faith—He's building a united, obedient body.

Trust God’s Timing, Not Just His Word

Faith is more than belief. It’s obedience stretched out over time.

Imagine walking around the same wall for six days—no cracks, no signs, no change. Many of us would give up on day two. But on day seven, they circled it seven times. They shouted. And the wall fell—not because of the shout, but because of their faith-filled obedience (Hebrews 11:30).

Some walls fall instantly. Others require patient persistence. That’s why Scripture says it’s through “faith and patience” that we inherit the promise (Hebrews 6:12).

The Holy Spirit: Your Daily Guide

You don’t have to guess your way forward. The Holy Spirit is your counselor, your strategist, your whisper of wisdom in moments of confusion. When Peter cast his net at Jesus’ instruction, he wasn’t doing something new—he was doing it with new direction. That made all the difference.

Are you listening for His instruction? Are you willing to follow—even when it’s unfamiliar, even when it makes no sense?

Sometimes, the Spirit’s voice sounds like a still small nudge. Sometimes it sounds like a spouse or a friend saying, “Wait.” Other times it’s a divine coincidence—someone moving out across the street at just the right time. But in every moment, He’s speaking.

The Wall Will Fall—But Will You Walk?

Walls don’t fall by wishing. They fall by walking. Obedient faith always wins. The question isn’t whether God will move—the question is whether we’ll keep moving with Him until He does.

So what’s your Jericho right now? What instruction has God given you that you haven’t fully obeyed? What promise have you stopped believing?

Let today be a day of realignment. Not with your fears or your logic—but with God’s voice, God’s word, and God’s way.

  1. What’s a time in your life when God’s instruction didn’t make logical sense—but turned out to be exactly what you needed?

  2. Where do you currently feel “stuck” in life, and how might God be inviting you to trust His strategy over your own?

  3. What are some ways we can stay consistent in obedience when we don’t see immediate progress?

  4. How can we grow in recognizing the Holy Spirit’s leading in everyday decisions?

  5. What’s one “God move” you sense might be next for you—and what’s holding you back from taking that step?
