Breakthrough That Lasts: How to Live a Spirit-Empowered Life
For the past few weeks, we’ve been asking a powerful question:
What if breakthrough isn’t about something we achieve—but about someone we receive?
This week brings it all together with one central truth:
Breakthrough is sustained not by human effort, but by Spirit-empowered pursuit.
Too often, we treat breakthrough like a moment—something we fight for, reach, and then lose. But Scripture paints a different picture. In Philippians 3:13–14, Paul describes a life in motion:
Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead… I press on toward the goal.
This isn’t about a single victory. It’s about a lifestyle.
1. Forward Focus
Breakthrough begins with how we posture our lives.
Paul uses the image of a runner leaning forward toward the finish line. It’s not passive—it’s intentional, focused, and urgent. Faith isn’t static. It moves, stretches, and grows.
But here’s the key:
This forward movement isn’t powered by us.
Jesus said, “Apart from me, you can do nothing.”
And in Zechariah: “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit.”
A life of breakthrough starts when we stop looking backward—and start leaning into what God is doing ahead.
2. Purposeful Pursuit
Paul doesn’t just strain forward—he presses on.
The language here is intense. It’s not casual or passive. It’s aggressive pursuit.
But here’s where we often get it wrong:
We try to pursue breakthrough with our own strength.
We think:
If I try harder…
If I push more…
If I stay disciplined enough…
Then things will change.
But breakthrough isn’t sustained by striving—it’s sustained by surrender.
There’s a difference between:
Striving (human effort)
Straining (Spirit-empowered pursuit)
One drains you. The other carries you.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to you.
Not just for salvation—but for everyday life.
3. Love Sustains the Pursuit
So what keeps us going?
It’s not just discipline.
It’s not just goals.
It’s not even breakthrough itself.
It’s love.
Paul says he presses on toward the prize—but the prize isn’t a result.
The prize is Jesus.
We don’t pursue breakthrough.
We pursue Him.
Because:
Love turns discipline into devotion
Love turns perseverance into joy
Love sustains what effort never could
Breakthrough Looks Different Than You Think
Sometimes breakthrough doesn’t mean escape from hardship.
Sometimes it means walking through it—with Him.
There are things we only discover about Jesus in the valley.
And when we stop striving and start surrendering, something shifts:
Pressure becomes passion
Effort becomes empowerment
Survival becomes transformation
Final Thought
If you remember anything, remember this:
Breakthrough isn’t about chasing what’s missing.
It’s about running to the One who already took hold of you.
So press on.
Not in your strength—but in His.
